The Vision

This is the first post of the series. We’ll be documenting all the bespoke niche conversions we do to give you more ideas of how our trailers can work for you!
Not every trailer we build is for coffee or cocktails — some of our favourite projects are the ones that break the mould entirely.
This build was for a brand-new Dog Deli, designed to serve high-quality dog treats and products from a fully converted horsebox.
This build was literally located around the corner from us, gives it a slightly more special meaning to us. Her deli is called House of Chester if you’d like to check her out! The customer came to us wanting something practical, charming, and completely different — and we couldn’t wait to bring it to life.
The Brief

This project was commissioned by a customer who runs a Dog Deli selling natural, handmade dog treats — the sort of thing Ben’s new Working Cocker Spaniel puppy will be keeping a close eye on.
Unlike most of our builds, this one wasn’t set up for catering or coffee. The customer was switching from a converted van to a trailer, and the priority was clear: space, visibility, and presentation. In her van, she’d used a large glass display to showcase her stock, and she needed the same visibility in the new trailer — but with more room to move and serve.
Because she wasn’t handling food preparation, we stripped back the usual catering setup. No sinks or fridge were required — instead, every inch of space was tailored to displaying natural treats clearly and attractively. One of the serving hatches was completely reimagined into a built-in display cabinet, creating a unique twist that turned a traditional horsebox design into a functional retail showcase.
The result was a layout that perfectly fit her business — practical, eye-catching, and made for customers who want to see exactly what they’re buying.
The Build

To preserve the clean, traditional look of the trailer, we kept this section as a standard opening hatch — but completely reimagined how it functioned. Rather than being used for serving, it was transformed into a built-in product display, allowing customers to browse treats directly through the hatch window.
We Perspex-panelled the hatch from the inside, giving a crystal-clear finish that looks just like glass but is far safer and more practical. The choice was deliberate — glass could easily shatter with the vibration and suspension movement that comes with towing a trailer, whereas Perspex offers strength, safety, and flexibility. It was so clear during the build that we temporarily marked it to stop anyone accidentally tossing tools through it.
Behind the panel, we built a custom shelving system optimised to display 18 jars in total, all measured precisely to fit the customer’s packaging. Every shelf was positioned for perfect visibility from outside the trailer, making it as functional as it was aesthetic.
To finish it off, we designed a custom locking system so the hatch could be secured from the outside — keeping the contents safe during travel or overnight storage.
The Finishing Touches

Just as we were completing the final details of the build, the customer mentioned she’d love to have some portable shelving to help display her products more effectively at events.
We went back to the drawing board and designed a set of bespoke curved display shelves — shaped to maximise display space while keeping the trailer’s interior open and easy to move around in. The curved design helped maintain visibility across the trailer, so customers could still see the rest of the layout clearly.
Although she only asked for one, we decided to build three in total. It’s the kind of small, extra detail we take pride in — going a bit further to make sure everything not only works perfectly but looks right too. Mark especially loves adding those thoughtful touches that turn a standard build into something genuinely special.
Final Thoughts

This build was a perfect example of what we love most at Westwood — taking a customer’s idea and turning it into something that fits their business perfectly, right down to the smallest detail.
Every decision, from the Perspex-panelled display hatch to the custom shelving and finishing touches, was made to make this Dog Deli trailer as practical and unique as possible. It’s clean, simple, and full of character — a real reflection of the customer’s brand and our approach to bespoke design.
What makes this one even more special is its local connection. The Dog Deli will be trading from Fox Valley, just around the corner from us — so we’ll get to see this trailer in action regularly and watch how it performs day to day.
We’ll be sharing a follow-up post soon with live shots of the trailer in use and a look at how it’s working for the customer in real-world conditions.
